Jai Ho to all the Gurus who teach me everyday!

Guru Purnima....The day when we offer our reverences to all those who imparted knowledge , wisdom and skills to us. I remember all my teachers and people in my life from whom I learnt something or the other. While some are remembered almost everyday, there are some that I make it a point to remember them on this special day .

Last year when I was talking in the school assembly on this occasion, I wanted to share with all my students how much I learnt in the past and how much I am learning now. And then it struck me while talking to them that each day I am learning something from them too.
Children, young people and the adults that I meet everyday, teach me something every moment. In a way they are gurus too!
I offer my sincere respects to all those who teach me day in and day out. They make me feel that life is one beautiful experience which needs to be rejoiced.

The toddlers from pre-primary who teach me!

I start with the youngest acorns of our school.
Their trust in us that we will look after them the way their parents do, teaches me how important it is to live up to the trust factor.
Their dependability on the school teaches me that I need to be highly responsible in my role.

The acorns of Primary & Junior Wings
When it comes to my acorns from the primary and junior wings, their immense belief in their teachers and the school, their complete faith in what the teacher says as right,...teaches me the importance of keeping that belief system alive and make myself capable of that faith.

The Highly Effective Young people from 7 Habits School in the Sr Wing
My young acorns in the senior wing, who will surely contribute to the growth of a value system in the nation are teaching me that irrespective of age, one can be rooted to principles. Values and discipline are not the forte of any age group, it belongs to all age groups at all times.
Enjoying to be proactive and striving to be effective, each one teaches me life’s effectiveness improves if we are synergistic and make sure that we put first things first. Their efforts to understand first and then to be understood, makes me empathic.
Accepting each others’ strengths and weaknesses and still being friendly, I learn from to think win win!

I see stars twinkle in every child’s eyes when I appreciate or talk to them. I learnt the importance of appreciation and acknowledgement because thats what motivates people into achieving greater things in life.
I salute to all my acorns who are helping me to consolidate my principled centered life.

My teaching team who teach me a lot!
When it comes to my teachers, I bow down to their positive spirit and their readiness to learn new things. Ego is not in their mind, but their self esteem is what I deeply respect. Their fine balance between home and work teaches me how I can manage the work within the time available. Their spirited approach to new ways of teaching learning, their enthusiasm at accepting new ideas and their open arms to welcome change...teach me to be a learner all my life.
My reverences to all my teachers on this occasion.

Parents community who communicate many lessons to me.
There are so many parents that I meet as the head of the school. Each one teaches me different aspects of life. If one parent teaches me what is love and care for children another shows me how important it is to instil values in children.
Last 5 years that I have been interacting with the parent community of the school, I learnt from them that education is means through which many dreams can be realized.
Of course there are parents who also teach me ...what not to be! Sometimes when I see their impatience at not understanding new ways of teaching methods in our school, I learn that patience is a virtue.
When I see some of them wanting to know only about how much percentage their child got or where he stands in the class, I learn that I should not measure a child by marks alone.

After the student passes out of the school, many parents don’t make it a point to teach the child to continue the bond with the school. Unknowingly they are not teaching the value of relationships. I learn from this that I should develop long lasting relationships at all times to keep the humanity alive.

Rishi: although I said it in the assembly today, i am saying it onc again, ur tolerance of ur discomfort in that high altitude with snow all around us, taught me how to be immensely tolerant. You know what after I said that and we all began to sing the National Song, two flies were troubling me and irritating me to no end. i didnt want to move b'coz it is disrespect to the national anthem, so i remembered your tolerance and told myself that I will tolerate these flies...sure enough I did! Thanks yougman for reminding me to be tolerant once again.

Meghana:Inspite of the rough times that we had last session, I trust that you will be one of the students that I will be proud of forever.I deeply respect ur regards for ur parents and ur devotion to ur dad. he is a fine gentleman and I am sure u will make him proud by doing well in all aspects. For the hardwork that he is doing by staying away from u in a different country and making sure that u n ur sistr r getting gud education, u must feel proud of ur parents.

mam, i always had wondered how you keep yourself so organized and smile always which is of course our culture. i liked the most about our school is that everyone feels a bonding towards it and treat it as a most memorable experience rather than just a building and students in it. i always loved the new practices in the school and the way we look at all the occasions. i thank for the school community which is making it happen and giving us education with values than just literacy. I am hoping [ no strong belief] that we are going to reach the pinnacle of success.

Teachers are people who impart their own learnings to others.People who guide, people who enlighten, people who are forms of erudites and inspire minds to be big, think bigger and act much bigger. But all of this really depends on people being "taught".How much of the learnings do they really put into effect and how much of it do we really understand. My point is well exlained by two cases, people I have always been fascinated with, Albert Einstein and Abdul Kalam.Brilliant though they are, these are people who have been highly influenced by their teachers.Take Einstein, teachers punished him for asking too many questions, called his mother to school and brandished her son useless..!!His permanent place in the class was in the corner of the classroom, where he stood, blissful and wondered and wondered and wondered. He was thrown out of classroom too many times and finally never went back to school. But he gave us our "E equal M C Square" (I love this theory. It doesnt describe light as a source but as a source of life, profound!) For Einstein his teacher was the world that he constantly observed, his mother who encouraged him and put him upto his otherwise known as "ridiculous" ideas. He grew up from being a "pathetic" student at Math to being..well..a source of biggest learnings of all times.Whilst,Abdul Kalam hails from a small village, fisherman father, studied in schools that couldnt afford a mat.His teacher saw a spark in APJ,and tutored to the point of perfection. He possessed the tool (his brilliant mind) but his teacher taught him how to use that tool (taught him how to think, analyze, apply and learn/unlearn).Kalam has always relegated on young minds the importance of a good teacher and the importance of good education. For him, his teacher was in his classroom, who taught him and opened his mind to what lay beyond the realms of his classroom. The message that these two cases and countless cases (known and unknown) carry, your teacher will be the one who opens your mind and helps you become "bigger than your body".You could be five feet five inches or two feet 5 inches, doesnt matter, your mind and its thoughts will always make you taller.I say find a person that helps this happen and make him or her your teacher and dont let the opportunity go waste.A teacher is not always the one standing at the other end of the classroom.Because, after you learn, you need to teach, and to make that knowledge transfer meaningful, you need to learn your best.In effect,Ma,I know you and your amazing team, have done that to a tremendous extent. The kids, under the tutelage of such able hands, will be all set to become "teach-ers" themselves. And that is what this world needs, more and more such healthy minds.Because only healthy, powerful, positive minds can tackle all that this world has become and ought not to be.
